Sunday overviewBig Session 2008Thursday 19th June 2008 Sunday afternoon and the hangover shift starts soothingly with Emily Barker and band doing it softly, and likewise for The Blue Blokes 3 following on the indoor stage whose acoustic country blues went down a treat with this listener.  Dan Donnelly is folk but he manages to rock out as well, and then things took a surprise 'trippy' turn in the Orange Tree for Pospatou and I wish I'd been there sooner for the eclectic Rutlanders, but you can't win them all (and besides the sun's out again). Back in the big- top one more time for a band I was looking forward to seeing again - The Handsome Family - who were just how I remembered them from Summer Sundae a few years ago where their ad-hoc personas onstage and (often blackly) humourous lyrics first came to my attention - love 'em.  Inevitably the site isn't as full for this last half-day of bands and tea-time finish, but there's still barely any spare seats in the house for the biggest band of the weekend (in terms of manpower) Bellowhead who bring the curtain down on another successful year for the Big Session.  The real ale bar is all but dry but there's still the odd bit of impromptu music and bargain samosas to be had before the journey home (or hit another fringe gig in the area and carry on - if you're able).
